14 Security Considerations
Abstract
Security Considerations
Chapter Leads: Will Beasley
14.1 Motivations
Security is one of the most important roles as a REDCap administrator. The server is a target because most installations are a public-facing website that can access PHI. In recent years, as REDCap has become essential to medical research projects and institutions, it is a target for its potential for user credentials it might have in common with other institutional assets (e.g., Beyond the Battlefield: Threats to the Defense Industrial Base, Google Threat Intelligence Group, 2026).
14.2 Involve Others
- Involve the IT’s security and operational teams
- Read the installation manual carefully
- Review community posts for relevant question
- Ask if in doubt
- Document the installation steps
